Healthy Weight Loss Starting with a Big Mac?
Healthy weight loss is something that a lot of us are in search for. My dear friend Melissa has been down a path that far too many of us have been. She chose to fight back and gain the life back she deserved and started her journey of healthy weight loss. This is Melissa’s story to date.
Melissa’s Transformation with Healthy Weight Loss
A Big Mac, supersized fries, a large coke, a big bag of chips and a Kit Kat bar. That was my idea of a great Friday night a few years ago not a great start to healthy weight loss. Food was my crutch, I felt happy when I ate. It brought me comfort. I have spent the latter part of my life being overweight. Looking back at photos from my teenage years, I noticed I would always try to be behind people so you couldn’t see how big I was becoming. I often would wear clothes that were larger and not form fitting in an attempt to look smaller. Instead of eating healthy and exercising to achieve healthy weight loss, I hid from everything, that led to emotional binge eating.
In 2009, I became a mother to the most amazing little boy, Cohen. I swore I would start bettering my life – if not for me – for him. I didn’t. I got next to no sleep and when I did have time to myself, I ate. I was alone, lonely, a new mother and emotionally overwhelmed. I once again found myself turning to food. No healthy weight loss in sight. His first birthday passed, I didn’t post most pictures with me in them online, as I was ashamed of how I looked in them. Christmas 2010 had come and gone, and I was still eating away and gaining like crazy. In my mind I knew I had to stop this habit and get myself to start doing things or I was going to become sick and I wouldn’t be able to watch my little boy grow up.
Time for Healthy Weight loss
During this time, I was on and off the bandwagon. Some months I’d fully commit and see a 10-20 pound drop, while others would only be 1-2 pounds. This world of healthy living was still new to me, and I wasn’t 100% committed to never eating “bad” again.January 1, 2011 I decided enough was enough, time to change. My doctor has my highest recorded weight at 343 pounds. I was disgusted, how could I let myself go like that? What kind of example was I setting for my young child? I went out and started buying fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meats, and boneless/skinless chicken and fish. I started preparing all of my meals and focused all my time and energy during the first month on my diet to achieve healthy weight loss. Once I got that under control I turned to social media, started adding anyone and everyone to my Facebook that was into fitness and health. Then I was introduced to BeachBody®. I researched the program, and decided it was as easy as pushing play in my own living room while my son had a nap. I then incorporated TurboJam® by Chalene Johnson, lent to me by one of my best friends, Carry. After falling in love with it and dropping a lot of weight, I turned to TurboFire®, a more intense workout by Chalene. Months started passing.
When I started this journey I didn’t have a lot of knowledge in the health/wellness field, so I didn’t really allow “treat” days for healthy weight loss. Seven days a week, I would eat clean, but then I would binge for a few days and feel guilty go back to working out. Can you relate to this? It wasn’t a complete write off of a year; I managed to lose about 60 pounds. But I wasn’t happy yet.
Really Getting Committed to Healthy Weight Loss
This past Christmas season, I felt a bit more confident. I again promised myself this year will be better. I’ll be more focused and have better results. We are now just past summer and I am sitting at 218 pounds. I’ve currently lost 125 pounds, and feel my confidence rising by the day. Yes, I know my goal weight of 140 pounds is still far off, but I can promise you that nothing is stopping me now. I am self-taught about diet, nutrition, health and wellness. I surround myself with only positive people who understand my journey and help support me. I take slimming formula daily supplements by Beachbody®, drink my Shakeology® and am currently on the P90x® program by Tony Horton. I use social media to run fitness events weekly, I currently am hosting a 90 day weight loss challenge and have my own page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/fitwithmelz) I use to motivate others to healthy weight loss. I am not ready to throw in the towel and I hope to soon start my Beachbody® business of coaching others in their journey knowing I’ll be with them each step of the way.
At first, I believed I had to do this for my son. I’ve since learned I also had to do this for me. This journey hasn’t been easy, but I know that every step will be worth it.
